The variety of weekly vegetables will vary throughout the growing season, as the crops will mature at different times and for various lengths. At no point will any delivery include every vegetable and fruit crop listed on the what's in the share page, due to different maturity windows. Harvest will begin in late spring and will end no later than Labor Day (13 - 15 week harvest season, depending on weather, maximum of 15 weeks).
In order to accommodate individual preferences, supporters may choose to not receive a particular vegetable(s) in any given week. Depending upon availability, that vegetable may be replaced with another crop within the same maturity window. Substitutions will be made according to preferences listed on the sign up form. In the case of an optional fruit crop shortage, we will substitute a different fruit crop in its place. Optional fruit crops may not be used as substitutions for standard share crops.
Various discounts available for the 2010 CSA season are listed below.
To sign up go to the contact page for more information on how to join. First half balance is due by 1/31/10. The remainder of the balance is due by May 1st. You will receive notices concerning these payments. Full payment must be received before any weekly shares may be received. Deliveries will begin late spring.
Supporters will be able to purchase a standard full or half share. Full shares are based on the average needs of a family of four, half shares on a family of two. Amounts are based on suggestions from our supporters. All standard share crops with the exception of sweet corn, yellow and red potatoes will be grown without the use of chemical pesticides or fungicides. In the case of emergency (excessive insect damage or disease), non-organic chemicals may be used for spot treatment. Traditional herbicides will be used on a limited basis in non root areas. As with the optional fruit listed below, the sweet corn will be raised by Rhoads Farms (a neighboring grower). Red and yellow potatoes will also be raised by a neighboring grower.
Supporters have the option to purchase additional fruit crops. Available fruits are: strawberries, red raspberries, blackberries, muskmelons, red and yellow watermelons, honeydew melons and peaches. Most of the fruit in this category will be raised by Rhoads Farms. Non-organic chemicals will be used on an as needed basis.
Due to the risks associated with farming, factors such as inclement weather and/or uncontrollable insects may affect the quantity and quality of the vegetables. In extreme cases, certain crops may not be available due to these factors.
